'Each old building is a vessel shaped by the unique stories of its inhabitants. I love to capture these little clues of prior existence, from replaced roof slates to weather-worn brickwork.'
COMMISSIONS
Sophie has worked with individuals, organisations and architectural practices on a variety of architectural subjects, from a 19th-century converted hay barn in Colorado to a Regency terrace in Devon. Scale can range from part of a building to an entire street.

PROCESS
A commission begins with a discussion of your experience of the building and what you hope to create. Wherever possible, this will be followed by a visit, to observe the building from all angles and take detailed photographs - although Sophie is able to work from high quality photographs provided.

The drawing is then built up in layers, from faint perspective guidelines to the final bold accents and shadows, all in traditional graphite pencil.
Sophie also occasionally works in fine liner and watercolour; see Portfolio for examples.
'Sophie created an architectural drawing of my house in Cape Cod, Massachusetts a couple years ago. It came out incredible!! I have it hanging on my wall and continue to be amazed by the amount of detail that went into it. The essence of the house is truly captured with pencil and paper. Definitely a work of art!'
